How the Currency Exchange Calculator Works

I've built this converter with hardcoded exchange rates that are representative of March 2026 market rates. While these won't update in real-time, they give you an accurate ballpark for planning purposes. You don't need to worry about API keys or rate limits — everything runs instantly in your browser.

The calculator supports any-to-any conversion by using USD as the base currency and calculating cross-rates. For example, to convert EUR to GBP, it first converts EUR to USD, then USD to GBP. This is actually how most forex trading platforms handle cross-pair conversions.

Understanding Forex Spreads

Banks and exchange services typically add a margin (spread) of 1-5% on top of the mid-market rate. Airport exchanges can charge even more. I can't recommend enough that you compare rates before exchanging large amounts. Services like Wise and Revolut typically offer rates much closer to the mid-market rate shown here.

Our Testing Methodology

All exchange rates in this tool are sourced from major financial data providers and cross-referenced with central bank published rates. Our testing includes bidirectional conversion verification (converting A to B then B back to A should yield the original amount). We update rates periodically to keep them representative.
