TL;DR: Web Scraper Lite collects NO personal data. All scraping happens locally in your browser. We don't see your data, we don't track you, and we don't sell anything. Period.
Introduction
Web Scraper Lite ("the Extension") is developed by Zovo ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our Chrome extension.
Data We Collect
We collect absolutely no personal data.
Specifically, we do NOT collect:
- Your browsing history
- The URLs you visit
- The content you scrape
- Your IP address
- Any personally identifiable information
- Analytics or usage data
- Cookies or tracking identifiers
Data Stored Locally
The Extension stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Scraper Templates - Saved configurations with element selectors for reuse
- User Preferences - Your interface settings like default export format
- Scrape History Metadata - Basic info for the history panel (no actual scraped content)
- Usage Statistics - Local counters for free tier limit tracking
This data never leaves your device. It is never transmitted to any server. Scraped data is held temporarily in browser memory during your session and exported locally when you choose.
Permissions Explained
The Extension requests the following permissions:
- activeTab - Allows the extension to access the current tab's content only when you explicitly click the extension icon or initiate a scraping action. We don't access tabs in the background.
- storage - Saves your preferences and scraper templates locally on your device using Chrome's local storage API.
- sidePanel - Displays the scraper interface in Chrome's built-in side panel so you can view selected elements, preview data, and export results while browsing.
- scripting - Injects the element selector script into web pages when you start a scraping session. Scripts only run when you explicitly initiate an action.
- Host Permission - Required to enable scraping on any website you choose. Access is strictly limited to user-initiated actions on the active tab. No automatic scanning or background access occurs.
How Scraping Works
When you use Web Scraper Lite:
- You click the extension to activate it on the current page
- You visually select elements you want to scrape
- The extension detects patterns to find similar elements
- Data is extracted and held in your browser's memory
- You export the data locally as CSV or JSON
At no point does any scraped data, user information, or browsing activity leave your device or get transmitted to external servers.
Third Parties
We do not share any data with third parties because we don't collect any data in the first place.
The Extension does not include:
- Analytics services (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- Advertising networks
- Third-party scripts
- External API calls
- Remote code execution
Data Transfer
We certify that:
- We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties
- We do not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's core functionality
- We do not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
